Thanks guys for the feedback.
I have logged this one in the Atlanta area before, and enroute to Benning, but never got a
positive ID for his unit.
I haven't seen anything confirming it is with the 2-3 Avn, but a few things do point to it. Mike
Riffle has reported seeing it at a Columbus Airshow in 05 and logged it a few times at Benning as
a Benning bird; Adam has, as he stated already, logged it enroute to Benning (possibly from 7A7);
the 498th Med Co had the responsibility for Medevac support at Mosby AHP/Camp Merrill and
maintianed a small detachment there, rotating helos in and out. I assume they, as C Co 2-3 Avn
still have that responsibility; he was flying from the southeast to the northwest (I know, not
REAL good reason to say he was from Hunter) so he could have been coming out of Ft Gordon, Ft
Stewart, Hunter, or somewhere in SC; according to the news writeups 12 helos were transferred, and
if this one is part of a detachment at 7A7, that could be why it hasn't been logged in the Hunter
area.
Michael, Scramble does show it as assigned to USAINFCS, but their dates are very old on that
record. It is possible it is still assigned, and with Merrill being a training center for the
Rangers, it makes for a good possibility.
I was hoping he would have given a little more info, but no such luck. This is why I love picking
up Army helos, they are hard to find, and even harder to ID. Hopefully this one will get a
positive ID soon.
Thanks guys
Rod
