It is Wednesday 10:02am EDT (1402z).
Once again I am monitoring ground comms from NASA-KSC and Cape Canaveral
AFS, as well as comms from USCG "Range Control" preparing for the launch of
what they are referring to as a "small wx satellite." They do not use such
reference for wx balloon launches; this is definitely a small satellite of some
kind.
The USCG is making Launch Hazard Area announcements on 157.1. Also Coast
Guard Range Control is in comms with vessels on 157.075 to change their
courses and get them out of the LHA. The launch window is from 0945am local to
1215pm local. CG Vessel 25423, a RHIB based at Port Canaveral, is involved in
the range clearance activities.
Just to avoid confusion, today's launch is NOT the GOES launch. A Boeing
Delta 4 carrying the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-N
(GOES-N) will launch on May 24 from Pad 37B at Cape Canaveral AFS.
My previous posting 06-05-15:
KENNEDY SPACE CTR/CCAFS Wx SAT LAUNCH
While monitoring NASA-KSC and Cape Canaveral AFS ground comms today I
heard discussion of a "small weather satellite" that was to launch this morning.
The launch hazard area extends only 8 miles offshore and the USCG says it
needs Range Control for only the area
in the immediate vicinity of the launch pads.
The cutoff time for the launch window was 1200pm EDT (1600z), but well in
advance of that (10:45am EDT) the launch was scrubbed until tomorrow. Usual
turnaround times are 24-hours, so look for the launch in the morning.
