It is 8:13pm EST (0113z).
Acft 703 among the group from the carrier has just announced he has an
IFE and must divert to Jacksonville immediately. His emergency is "right canopy
has departed from the aircraft." He informed Sealord on 267.5 and is now up
on 284.5.
I heard him inform another aircraft about the incident as soon as it
happened, and the pilot was quite calm about it. . .not totally calm, but
considering the emergency he took it pretty good and descended to 10,000 feet. I
guess when you land an F/A-18 in the middle of the night on a moving ship that
is tossing and turning in a wild ocean, losing a canopy is just another event
in your day.
