Lots of mixed aircraft flying this weekend.
Participating aircraft: A-10, P-40, P-51, TF-51, F-4, F-15E, F-16D, F-22A,
F-86
Only one incident marred this otherwise great event. On Saturday, the F-86,
sustained a landing gear malfunction as it was landing at DMAFB. The extent
of the damage is not known, but there was a fire, and the runway was
shut-down for over 2 hours. Aircraft were diverted to Tucson International
Airport.
Frequencies:
118.50 - Heritage Show Discrete
123.15 - Heritage Discrete
376.025 - F-15E Narration/Commands
384.55 - F-15E Discrete
305.40 - A-10/F-16 Discrete with Hog Operations
Surprisingly, most of those in attendance on base, were not there for the
F-22A, but for the older warbirds. I was very impressed with F-22A vertical
take-offs, by far quicker than the F-15's and F-16's. The F-22A also does
this really cool hang in the air, lending to it's other title - "a bird of
prey". After the F-22 overflies the crowd on it's second to last pass, it
makes a very impressive break to the right, then an immediate turn to the
left, almost as tight as the A-10....very cool.
Lots of digital photos that I have to go through, including photos of the
F-22A on the tarmac in front of Base Ops:)
If you get a chance to see a Raptor, you'll be happy with its performance.
