[MilCom] Searching Versus Actual Frequency in Memory Bank/Channel?

These are some of the tactics I use to find new freqs:

- Use search and store with 25 KHz steps and let it run for days. This works,
as I usually find known freqs that rarely come up, such as Nasa Ops, but you
have to literally let it run for days. Small hunks don't work in my opinion.
Your scanner does x channels/sec and that this that. You might as well bite
off the whole thing and make up with lack of speed by employing more time.

- Use a risk based approach by searching 100 Khz increments as this is where
most freqs lie. Goes 4x faster but you'll miss the new assignments of 25 Khz.
Also consider 50 Khz steps.

- on VHF (low band and 138-144 and 148-150.7) I'll populate a whole scanner
(via computer) with all freqs possible. Usually produces some hits and I can
mix in other freqs with it. It may be my imagination, but my 780XLT's seem to
perform better when freqs are stored than when searching.

- use more than one radio and split the loads up.

- do your searching on Fridays and Sats. Reserve pilots tend to cluster up on
weekends and I find I get more traffic then.

In any case, the 225-400 will take some time so get comfortable.
