[MilCom] Searching Versus Actual Frequency in Memory Bank/Channel?

>From my standpoint I find it  impossible, using the "search" function  to 
find any new UHF aero "tactical" frequencies in use do to the large 
frequency range that has to be covered.   I have had very good luck 
"searching" the 138-144, 148-150.8 mhz VHF aero tactical.

As far as base support frequencies (NFM/P25) in any frequency range, I've 
found that the "search" function has been VERY succesful in finding most 
frequencies.  HOWEVER, it' s important that the searches take place when 
there's activity on the base (e.g. Unit Training Assembly weekends) such as 
Air National Guard, & Air Force Reserve Bases.

Be interested in what method proved successful in finding new UHF aero 
"tactical frequencies" as well as others.
