Hello Gil and all,
>Is there a website that I can use to search MILITARY tail numbers and/or
>callsign info ?
Standard FAQ #1 -- Most of the callsign info on the internet is older than I
am, ok maybe not quite that old. ;-)
Most all the callsign list published on the net nd passed around as the best
of the best are variants of a list that was published on the internet well
over ten years ago now. Some of the material was bad then when it was
originally published (i.e. still had F-111 callsigns and that silly Aksarben
callsign for Offutt) which has not been reported in years and other
wierdness.
Of course, some of folks out there published this same list as the
definitive source for military callsigns on the internet. It is fun to see
dozens of copies of the same thing (sometimes with a few additions of
deletions) all across the net and all claiming theirs is the best and most
accurate list or even worse, admitting it is old and out of date, but they
are going to publish it anyway for the good of the hobby. Just Damn!!!
Right now Gil, there is NO callsign list on the web I can recommend. But if
someone on this group has a callsign list out there you think is worthy of
note, feel free to the URL along pass it along and if it checks out, I will
be happy to give you a plug on Milcom and put it on my blog.
But until then Gil, I would stay right here on Milcom and watch the post
from the experienced monitors here and compile your own list.
As for side and buro numbers, the best place on the net overall is Scramble
website database at: http://www.scramble.nl/dbmil.htm

Subject: [MilCom] Tail number help
While being an occasional poster here, I've noticed that others come up with
aircraft info other than what is gleaned from radio monitoring. Is there a
website that I can use to search MILITARY tail numbers and/or callsign info
?
Thanks,
Gil
