[MilCom] ICOM PCR-1000

I used a Pro-2005 for many years as my primary milcom receiver until I
bought a PCR1000 a couple years ago. You can change modes on any
frequency and while the receiver is way more sensitive there is almost
no intermod. The only problems ive experienced is with the Icom
software, you cant scan multiple banks nor decode DCS tones but there
is third party software to support those functions as well as
trunking. The receivers front end and EEPROM also tends to blow too
easily even when properly grounded. My PCR1000 was fried last March by
a nearby lightning strike, depending on where I send it they want
between $100-$400 to fix it. If youre thinking about purchasing a
PCR1000 I would hold off as the unit was discontinued last year and
Icom is/has released its replacement the PCR1500. The prototype looks
promising, the receive range is extended to 3.3GHz, includes DCS
decode and instead of a DB9 cable the unit connects to your PC via
USB. The new PCR1500 is also rumored to have a remote control panel
available (IC-R1500) allowing you to use the receiver in your home or
car without a computer.
