Actually in the future the TBirds will probably be remotely piloted vehicles
flown by some slightly overweight
20 year olds, that played video games their entire lives prior to entering
the Air Force. There won't be any radio
comms since the "pilots" will all be hooked up via a local area network on
the ground.
Might even bring some big screens set up so that folks can watch them
control the aircraft. OR perhaps the entire routine will be "preprogrammed"
Most fighter & bomber missions can now be flown by pilotless (less costly)
aircraft that can be engineered without constraints to the human
physiological factors of flight!!! Basically the pilot mafia is trying to
continue this fallacy that we need all these pilots & are unwilling to even
consider that the kid who played video games
since he/she was 4 years old might actually be a very good pilot, at a
significantly lower training & retention cost (e.g. they all would be Flight
Warrant Officers).
It's unclear as to how transport aircraft will be affected but the
possibility of positive landing control during
any weather conditions is another project that continues to be worked.
Personally I don't think I would want
to get on a transport type aircraft that didn't have a flight crew but was
only controlled via radio links!!!!
The big "IF" with RPV's though is what if there's other non RPV traffic in
the airspace. What type of sensors are
there in the aircraft to avoid hitting the other aircraft. Other uses of
RPV's will include recon as well as a local
tactical radio communications repeater....
The next 20-30 years should prove very interesting!
