A New Mission
KAKE News

A New MissionA new mission is coming to the Kansas Air National Guard in
Wichita. The Air National Guard at McConnell Air Force Base will be getting
a flying mission again. The plane that will be coming is the T38 Talon. It's
a twin engine, high altitude supersonic jet trainer. This information is so
new it's catching officials at the Air Guard surprised and speechless. The
news is coming from Senator Pat Robers and Congressman Todd Tiahrt's
offices. Senator Robers spoke from Washington, saying "Since the 2005 BRAC
decision transferred a fleet of air guard tankers at McConnell up the road
to Forbes field in Topeka, Congressman Tiahrt and I have been working
tirelessly to bring a new flying mission home to the Kansas Air National
Guard." A spokesman with Congressman Tiahrt's office says they're expecting
at least one squadron with 30 aircraft. They will be transferred from Moody
Air Force Base in Georgia. It is still undetermined how many airmen could be
coming to Wichita with this transfer.
