[MilCom] Pentagon New Terrorism Stategy to Affect Hobby Mail lists?

For a long time now, my Firewall has been reporting occasional
hits from the "DOD Network Information Center" or something
like that. I have contacted them a couple times and never really
did get a straight answer as to why this is.

While I am only an occasional poster here my involvement in
email and more private discussions on various "aircraft projects"
goes back 12 to 15 years so I could be on some list, who knows?

Those of you who have one Firewall or another, if your software allows
you to traceback the source of the hits you get you might want
to do that now and then and see if anyone else snags the DOD NIC.

Subject: [MilCom] Pentagon New Terrorism Stategy to Affect Hobby Mail lists?

Many Sunday newspapers today will have an article from "New York Times"
newspaper writer Thom Shanker "Pentagon Forges New Strategy On Terrorsim"...

Basically it's a classified counterterrorism strategy. Part of the non
classified release to the press indicates ... "It also orders the military
to focus on terrorist information gathering systems......."

In my opinion, hobby internet email lists & typical "on scene" activities
may very well come under increased scrutiny (surveillance) by military
investigators (e.g. AFOSI, NCIS, CID, etc.) as well as the military's
communications security(COMSEC)/operational security(OPSEC) policy/training
personnel.

Investigative Agencies websites:
Air Force OSI: http://public.afosi.amc.af.mil/ Army CID:
http://www.cid.army.mil/ Navy NCIS: http://www.ncis.navy.mil/

I'm sure that all of you are aware that you don't have to be a member of
this list in order to access the history/archives of the list via just
signing on and going to the list. I don't want to fan the flames of
paranoia (we've got enough of that already) but just to point out that
programs such as the public "Eagle Eyes" & other classified programs that
we know nothing about may very well have an internet research/surveillance
program component.

As usual public or private comments are welcomed, based upon your comfort
level for public exposure.
