John most likely there will be protective aero activity around the NYC area
this evening. I'd check the typical Huntress freqs (refer to last year's
posting by others for the specifics). The only unknown is the air/air
tacticals, since that will be dependent upon which unit(s) fly the
protective mission.
I know locally Civil Air Patrol has got one of their aircraft flying.
Probably will be providing the "CAP" to first night activity here in
Northampton, MA. Not sure if Civil Air Patrol was ever successful in
obtaining the machine guns (mini-version) & rockets installed yet on some of
their aircraft BUT I like the idea of a Cessna 182 flying around at around
$65.00 per hour versus F15C/D ($6K per hour) or F16 ($5K per hour) :) ;).
Unfortunately (but I guess it would fortunate for those communities that get
the golden distinction as a "National Special Security event" so that an all
out (read "expensive") effort of protection is rolled out "just in case") my
guess is 20 years from now we will still be seeing this same type of "just
in case" activity that hopefully we can still monitor!!!
Anyways, Happy New Year.. I'm confident the New Year will come in quiet
without any major security problems due to the efforts of our Armed Forces
and other volunteers such as Civil Air Patrol & the USCG Auxiliary providing
protection throughout the US!
