One of my Christmas gifts this year was the paperback book "Red Star Rogue",
Kenneth Swell with Clint Richmond, Pocket Star Books, New York NY, Copyright
2005, ISBN-13: 978-0-7432-6112-8, 462 pages.

The book presents potential facts to the theory that in 1968, a Rouge
Russian submarine, off the Hawaii coast, attempts to launch a nuclear
missile at Pearl Harbor. The submarine suffers a catastrophe explosion, due
to the nuclear "fail safe" system that is installed when they try to launch
the nuclear missile.

This is a book I found that I couldn't put down when I started to read it.
A great "Cold War" story, involving US Navy assets such as attack submarines
(stationed close to the USSR submarine ports), SOSUS, P2/P3 "hunters", USS
Halibut "recovery vehicle"; NSA's "bird cage antennas" (used to triangulate
USSR microburst transmissions), USAF NORAD's satellites (that could detect
specific missile rocket engine flash launches), and finally Howard Hughes'
"Glomar Explorer".....
