Greetings everyone,
In a news release issued Monday, Canada's Air Force announced that the two
CF-18 Tactical Fighter Squadrons at 4 Wing Cold Lake (416 and 441) will be
consolidated into the re-activated 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron, which
will also be based at 4 Wing Cold Lake. The 409 Squadron was previously a
CF-18 squadron based in Baden, Germany. The consolidation of the two
squadrons will allow for some increased efficiencies. There will be no
loss of aircraft, but there may be some personnel shuffles.
The ceremony to reactivate 409 squadron will take place July 6, 2006. The
same ceremony will celebrate the accomplishments of 416 and 441 squadrons.
Presumably, there will be no changes to 410 Tactical Fighter Training
Squadron (CF-18), also based at 4 Wing Cold Lake.
This follows other squadron consolidations, including the consolidation
last year of the CF-18 433 squadron at Bagotville into the expanded 425
Tactical Fighter Squadron, also at Bagotville.
Also announced today was the consolidation of 1 Air Movements Squadron (17
Wing Winnipeg) into 2 Air Movements Squadron (8 Wing Trenton). It's not
clear from the press release, but it looks like the personnel in 1 Air
Movements Squadron will be moved to Trenton, where they will become a part
of 2 Air Movements Squadron.
