Al,
Not to belabor the point but, I would disagree with "If he spells it RODD
for ATC purposes, that is his Call sign", for instance in my other example
COSMK versus COSMIC, Which is actually a word and would have been picked as
a call sign? A great many of the Call Signs in use have a history with the
unit using them and As Ken points out in another post, "ROD" has history as
a call sign at the Base and was actually incorporated into unit emblems.
Perhaps Ken can ask someone and get the answer straight from the Unit.

Well that is the point. If he spells it RODD for ATC purposes, that is his
callsign. Why fight it?
