It is 11:41am EDT (1541z).
The very colorful RAF AWACS acft "Vulcan 01" just completed two low
approaches over the Shuttle Landing Facility. He coordinated his request for the
two passes with Cape Control on 264.8, and then was heard in comms with the
tower on 128.55.
Next he executed a low approach over Patrick AFB, in comms with the tower
here on 133.75.
He then departed toward the Melbourne VOR and is en route to Homestead ARB.
Those of you who see him will notice the very colorful tail. The port side
of the tail has a beautiful red-blue-yellow flag of its squadron, and the
large number 90, which stands for the 90th anniversary of that squadron,
celebrated in 2005. I have not seen the starboard side of the tail, but friends in
the UK tell me it bears the flag of the sister squadron at its Waddington
RAF air base. Try to get a look at this beautiful bird with the black and
white striped radar dome mounted on its back, while he is still in the US on what
I am told is a very rare trip to the Colonies.
