NGA Reviewing Public Comments on Aeronautical
Safety of Navigation Publications
St. Louis, Mo. -- The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)
officially closed
on June 30, 2005 the public comment period concerning its proposal to remove
its Flight
Information Publications (FLIP), Digital Aeronautical Flight Information
File
(DAFIFT), and related aeronautical safety of navigation digital and hardcopy
publications from public sale and distribution.
The review, which was announced by NGA in a Dec. 3, 2004 press release,
resulted in
several hundred responses to NGA. Agency officials will assess and evaluate
the public
input to make a final determination if it is necessary to change or modify
the original
proposal. The Agency has also begun a dialogue with a number of interest
groups
identified during the public comment period to gain further insight into
those groups
issues and concerns. The evaluation period should be completed by
mid-September with
a final decision expected in the October/November 2005 timeframe.
NGA is a national intelligence and combat support agency whose mission is to
