[MilCom] CB Antenna for Milcom Aero?

It is *generally* true that the more antenna you put up and
the higher you put it, the better your reception will be.
For receiving purposes, matching length to the wavelength
you want to listen to is NOT critical (except possibly if
you are doing something really exotic and/or weak signal).
That being said, I can tell you that if you let the antenna
length go TOO far away from your intended listening frequency,
you can lose some signal but you're talking mostly at HF in
my experience. In the VHF and UHF regions it seems like I can
put up darned near anything for an antenna and have it work.
Even so - HIGHER is STILL better....maybe moreso at VHF/UHF
due to "line of sight" issues. The higher the antenna, the
longer your line of sight will be TO THE HORIZON. That is
important for ground stations. Aircraft in the air can have
a tremendous line-of-sight range, and you can hear them at
quite a distance even with a mediocre antenna.
>From experience I can tell you that a *vertical* CB antenna
will do a nice job receiving just about any *vertical* signal
from around 20 MHz and up. Most aviation stuff seems to be
*verically polarized* signals so it should work well. As for
the radials? For reception purposes, they are pretty much
irrelevant and from a physical perspective they are more of a
pain in the ass than they are worth.

My Doctor told me, the more metal you can get up in the air the better.
