A press release from the Secretary of the Air Force, Office of Public
Affairs
(Release No. 430905, September 7, 2005)

Indicates that the 147 Fighter Wing (Ellington Field TX) assigned RC26(B)
aircraft has been performing photo recon missions
over Katrina's area of destruction. Apparently these aircraft normally
perform counterdrug operations support.

Interestingly the USAF official website (www.af.mil) doesn't have this
listed in their facts files
1. "The International Directory of Military Aircraft" 1996/1997 edition
page 74 as a Fairchild C-26
& Metro. The picture in the directory shows a US Army tail code with an
antenna probably
for communications monitoring intelligence.
2. Also the website
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/c-26.htm has VERY
comprehensive info
on this aircraft. Apparently 11 our used by the National Guard for Counter
Drug ops with special electronics installed.

Anyone every monitored these aircraft in flight?

K
