Hello Jack:
Well I never started my own data base so to speak BUT probably is a good
idea, perhaps using an excel spreadsheet -- right now I've got multiple
messages & lists in various formats e.g. word, excel, etc....
Regarding searching the military spectrum for me it can be relatively easy
to a very difficult/almost impossible challenge:
1. Military Land Mobile/Base Support Nets -conventional nets -- relatively
easy to find the major functions, might have to wait for an exercise or
incident for hearing less used frequencies. Trunked Systems may require
some advanced equipment, especially for finding specific frequencies for
multiple sites.
2. Air/Air tactical 138-144, 148-150.8 mhz -- fairly easy to find a
frequency in use, BUT problem is matching up the voice/abbreviated callsign
with the aircraft; so another scanner is needed scanning the known ATC
freqs.
3. Air/Air tactical UHF 225 to 400 mhz --- I've never been successful,
primairly because of the bandwith involved. One would definitely have to
use multiple scanners dedicated just to this range. Also of course,
matching the voice to the callsign on known VHF/UHF ATC freqs
4. Known Aero related ATC, Command Post, Base Operations, etc.
frequencies -- Well referring to Grove's bundled Frequency Master File is a
great start to inputing known frequencies. Also as long as the AP1,AP1A,
AP1B, & US IFR & VFR supplements are publically available, these also have
the potential of giving known & some updated frequencies.
IMHO not everyone has the equipment, available time, & "patience" to do much
searching so some geographic areas will probably never have any reporting of
new frequencies.
Perhaps others on the list could give the list ideas as to how they
successfully find new milcom frequencies.
