[MilCom] boeing b-52

Since the original question had to do with the safety of
the B52 airframes WRT age, one might point out that a
considerable number of KC135 tankers are also still in service.
None of these are spring chickens, either, but through a
process of upgrades and so forth, the taxpayers have also
gotten their money's worth several times over on the KC135
as well as the B52.

They build 'em pretty good up there in Washington..... :-)

In fairness, one should also point out that the Lockheed C130
may well be the longest produced military aircraft in the world.
Not 100% sure about that but it might be a good bet. I'd imagine
that there are a number of older C130's flying in various
places.....

An engineering study in the year 2001 predicted that the B-52 would be
flying for the air force into the year 2045, almost a century after its
development began. It has outlived not only its predecessors but also many
of its successors such as the Convair B-58, Rockwell B-70 and B-1A, and
perhaps even the B-1B. A USAF general called it a plane that is "not getting
older, just getting better." Of the 744 B-52s built, fewer than 100 remain
in service, all H-models. The Boeing engineers had built a plane that was
strong enough to last and basic enough to be adaptable to the changing
technology of air war.

BUFF is still flying!
