[MilCom] MacDill Air Show cancelled

Unfortunately, I would suspect that there will be more military base open
house/air show cancellations in the future.... It's difficult even for
static aircraft crews to be away from their families & many active, reserve,
& guard personnel have been on long overseas deployments. At many shows
this season, basically the planes were just parked (no open cockpits or
stands to look in) with no crew members around. I suspect the deal was to
fly the aircraft up for the show & be able to visit with family/friends.
As far as the support aspect for any shows (safety, parking, etc.) it a
Herculean effort (personnel staffing, off base support, coordination,
tc.) -- I guess that although the prior operational plan is used, "lessons
learned" are incorporated in the new support plan and of course the
terrorist threat condition can affect the entire show ..
