This past Thursday, the airspace configuration around Miami, Ft Lauderdale
and Palm Beach was changed dramatically: new freqs and new approach NAVAID
fixes. For example, MRLIN Approaches are gone. Some of the new NAVAID Fixes
are:
FATHR
FISEL 1 Approach to Ft Lauderdale (from FATHR)
HILEY 1 Approach to Miami (from OSOGY)
MIMMI
OSOGY
TOOMR
One new Miami Center freq being heard is 126.95 (as noted by Mike Comer).
According to conversations between ATCs and griping pilots, Jeppersen
Charts have not caught all of the changes. Miami Ctr ATCs characterize the
changes as "very dramatic," and "totally reconfigured."
Another recent change: A new computer for Daytona Approach eliminates
having separate computers for Melbourne and Daytona Beach traffic. One
consequence is that Embry Riddle acft can now use either N###ER or Riddle ### callsigns,
regardless of where they are flying. They used to be limited to N###ER
callsigns when in the Melbourne area.
