There may not be a way -- really, it depends on the radio you're trying 
to connect to.  Some radios bring discriminator audio to an accessory 
jack on the back of the radio, others require you to tap into the unit.

If the radio you're looking at doesn't provide a source of squelched 
discriminator audio, take a look at the NHRC squelch board 
(http://www.nhrc.net/nhrc-squelch/).  It provides you a source of CAS 
(carrier activated squelch).  It works fairly well and I use one at a 
remote receive site on a repeater system I maintain.
