I have NEVER had a problem bringing a scanner to an airshow
in the past twelve years and that includes mostly airshows
on military bases. Sure, since 9/11 the inspections are going on,
but all they want to see is that the scanner is operational and
sometimes they ask you to turn it on for them. That's it.
By all means take it to the show and enjoy the excitement
of hearing the comms from the pilots. It enhances the whole
airshow experience.
