Just to get back on this subject, a source near the Cape has just confirmed
that 259.7 was tested during the countdown phase of the mission this
afternoon
with Houston from the orbiter. Looks like that circuit is still valid. No
word on 296.8 but that was made the backup some years ago. In past mission
259.7 has been left on during entire missions and in some of them was only
turned on during ascent and descent. We shall see what we have once they get
on orbit. While NASA TV is the best way to go, I still get a rush
intercepting the UHF direct. And my memory my most vivid memory of the
Challenger disaster several years involved the last intercept of the UHF
channel before the explosion. So folks put 259.7 and 296.8 in memory and see
what you can hear after launch.

73 all and good hunting,

BTW my money is on a Monday launch. ;-)
