ATLANTA -- Visitors to Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta were in for something of a surprise Friday afternoon: The landing of a military helicopter that dropped in rather unexpectedly. 
No injuries were reported when the UH1 Huey helicopter, operated by the Georgia National Guard, landed shortly about 11:30 a.m. in the park's meadow, which recently underwent a $1.3 million renovation. The pilot of the medivac helicopter said he was hovering when an emergency indicator light came on indicating an engine malfunction. The procedure calls for an immediate landing when the light comes on, said the pilot, whose identity was pending.Authorities said a defective chip apparently caused the light in the helicopter to illuminate. The pilot was performing an exercise to look at local hospital landing sites when the situation arose.
A back-up helicopter was sent to provide assistance to the disabled craft.
The site in the park where the helicopter landed is where outdoor movies are shown during the summer.
