Duane,
While station at Incirlik, Turkey (96-98) "Southern Air" flew C-130s,
civilian designation L-100, all over Turkey and Europe. It's not a matter of
the Air Force having enough C-130s, but these guys are contracted to haul
cargo and people while military aircraft or busy about military missions.
Cheers,
Keith

OK, so what's a CIVILIAN C130 doing at an AIR FORCE BASE
when the USAF appears to have plenty of C130's of their
own? Somehow or other, I have my doubts that USAF really
needs the help of just ONE civvie C130.......... :-)

There are several civilian c-130s in use. Most of these are stretch models.
A company called Lynden Air Cargo out of Newark NJ ran some. Most any
civilian c130 can be traced back to Transamerican Airlines who at one time
ran a bounch of military contract along with a busy operation moving
civilian air cargo and cargo charter work.
