I saw Ken's post the other day... "Ok folks (lurkers included).
How about a posting on your top 50
milcom/military air frequencies that you monitor and is active in your
geographic area."... well, I figured that since I am a huge lurker
(posting once a year or so!) that I should chime in and post a few of my
favorite Milcom freq's... so here goes!
First off, I am located in south eastern AZ, about 10 mile's
north of Ft Huachuca, a US Army Post. Several M.I. Battalion's as well as
a Signal Battalion live here. In addition, this is HQ for M.I. training
for all of the branch's of the military. This is also a UAV (Shadow)
training facility. There is a joint-use airfield here, Libby Army
Airfield / Sierra Vista Muni. The tower is only manned, basically M-F
08:00 - 17:00 (prime @ work time!).. although occasionally the evening's
as well, when the "Brady" bunch (Missouri Nat'l Guard??) C-130's are in
town. Well, in trying to keep with Ken's format, here goes...
Air Traffic Control:
124.950 / 284.750 Tower (CTAF)
121.700 / 268.700 Ground

299.100 discrete radar
237.500 discrete radar
349.150 Havert Assault Strip / Brady A-A
134.750 / 327.150 Alb Ctr LOW Mt Lemon
123.975 Libby Tanker Base (during fire season)

173.4125 Military Police
173.025 Ft Huachuca Fire Dept
150.500 Range Control
173.150 RW Bliss Medical Clinic
157.160 Crashnet**
163.5375 D.I.S.#1 (Dept Installation Support)
Housing
162.225 D.I.S.#2, Engineering
150.650 Public Affairs Office
149.900 P.O.L. (refueling)
140.800 Range Control Admin
148.500 504th Signal
** Crashnet is a full time VHF repeater linked to 121.700 (Ground
Control) this enables any of the local fire dept's (side note: Long Live
Conventional VHF Public Safety!!... down off of soap box now) to
communicate with the tower without the need for air band radio's.
I know that it's not quite 50, but as I mentioned above, most of
the activity occurs during "prime time" work hours, and this is, after
all, only a hobby!
As a side note, Ken posted about some military bases "contracting
out" security... I can confirm that Ft Huachuca has indeed done just
that! D.O.D. folks are manning the 3 access gates, checking the ID's ect.
Typically there is also one, sometimes 2, Army personnel as well. They
(D.O.D. personal) do indeed have hand held's that talk on the MP's freq
(173.4125), but they also carry FRS radio's to talk between the guy's
standing in the traffic (ID checkers) and the guy's sitting in the guard
shack (vehicle search's).
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Years this
evening....
