[MilCom] "Military Communications" Magazines?

Hi Joe & List,
I took over writing the monthly MilAir/Fed column for "Scanning USA" almost
a year ago. In the issue in question, the August 2005 issue, there was an
error in the translation of CAP by the editor. I heard about this error
through an e-mail address I have set up for that column. A few readers had
caught the mistake and e-mailed me about it before I ever even got my copy
of the issue. I called the editor and spoke with him about adding a
correction regarding this mistake in the September 2005 issue, so, it should
be there.
The staff at Scanning USA is wonderful and very easy to work with. And I
have to take part of the blame for the mislabeled article myself. I usually
title the articles myself, but in this specific issue, I did not title the
article because the editor usually renames it. Had there been a title
reading Combat Air Patrol in a larger, bold font like I had always done in
the past, this error might not have occurred.
Its pretty easy to overlook things sometimes. Heck, I overlooked this
e-mail Im replying to and wouldnt have even known about it if a MilCom
friend hadnt seen it and called me about it.
Ive been looking for ways to expand and make my monthly column better, but
at the same time, it is sometimes hard to write an article (especially if
frequencies are involved) that will satisfy readers across the country. I
have the Southwest US covered pretty well as far as topics and frequencies
go (but Im always looking for something new here too
I by NO means have
it all), but when it comes to areas I do not live in, it can be a little
difficult to write an article containing frequencies and squadron
information for the Northwest or Northeast US (or any other areas outside of
my VHF/UHF listening range).
If anyone has any federal and/or military information theyd like to
contribute or questions theyd like to see addressed in the MilAir/Fed
Column, please e-mail me at column-feedback at sbcglobal.net. Ive had two
contributors from MilCom already help out with some information used in
previous issues of the magazine. I will give credit to those who want it,
and for those who might choose to remain anonymous, Ill report the
information was received via an anonymous sender. Like I mentioned, I want
to make this article better ad one that readers across the country (both
novice and experienced monitors) can enjoy and use. Any contribution or
input is always appreciated and welcomed.
I guess Id better end this e-mail with some reassurance to the friends I
have on MilCom who have passed along information to me through the years
asking that it not be passed any further. There is nothing to worry about
:). As with each of us, chances are we have friends (whether weve met them
in person or not) weve received valuable information from and have been
requested not to pass the information along any further. Im sorry if this
offends anyone, but I respect a persons right to pass along information and
not have that information go any further. I keep my word and anything,
past, present, or in the future, that is passed along and not intended to be
published will not be.

On a side note about the August 2005 issue. It says
Civil Air Patrol but the article, at least mine, talks
about the Combat Air Patrol missions. It had CAP
right. Just not the one we're used to calling CAP.
