Appears that we might see more info on military communications in upcoming
issues of "Popular Communications" magazine.

The Website shows that the September issue
http://www.popular-communications.com/Sept%2005%20Highlights.html

Has a Steve Douglass authored featured article "Inside The Osprey's Nest"
(with the magazine front cover showing a picture & headline "The Osprey,
Floats Like A Butterfly, Stings Like A Bee!!!, a Pop'Comm exclusive!!!"...
not sure if there's any frequencies provided......

Additionally Douglass' monthly column "Utility Communications Digest" starts
off with "Iraq--The Next Nuclear Threat..." and perhaps some good HF
frequencies to monitor them on???

Furthermore, we've got Rich Arland's "Homeland Security" monthly column
that starts out with a "Pep Talk" about our brave military in Iraq... & his
views on why we should stay the course in Iraq -- not sure how this relates
to topics in a communications hobby magazine..... BUT I can just imagine
that environmentally & operationally this is just a 'living hell' for anyone
that is over there!!! (hey it's 98 degrees here in Springfield MA today with
45% humidity, where over there it's 110 to 120+ degrees, 60 to 80% humidity
with low temperatures only in the mid 80's.... check out the Iraq forcasts
at http://weather.yahoo.com/regional/IZXX.html to get an idea.... Also
operationally, the overall stress related with proceeding in a convoy/ground
transportation must almost be overwhelming not to mention the
sporadic/constant threat of urban type search/fighting taking place!!!!

Notably missing in action MIA for the past quarter was Bill Hoefer's "Plane
Sense" column, which covered primarily civilian aero comms (but also listed
UHF ATC radio changes), but provided info that could help in monitoring
military comms. I had hoped that the column would have been expanded to
include more military aero radio communications information.

>From my viewpoint it also appeared that Steve Douglass was attempting to
move the "Utility Communications Digest" column to include more military
VHF/UHF logging information (as mentioned in his plea for loggings in the
January, June, July column editions) BUT so far I haven't seen anything
loggings in print (probably about a 2 to 3 month lag time from when a column
is submitted to actual printed edition).

I know that "Monitoring Times" magazine continues to devote a monthly column
("Milcom") dedicated to military/military aero communications, as well as
rotational subjects ("Boats, Planes, & Trains") column.....

BTW are there any other hobby magazine's that devote space to military
communications related subjects?
