Local news media (WWLP-TV) is reporting that 104 FW, Barnes ANGB, Westfield
MA will be having a large military training exercise starting tomorrow
(Saturday 4/30 at 0800 hrs, through Sunday 5/1/05 (probably 1600 hrs))....
This could prove to be a great monitoring challenge/adventure for those
hobbyists inclined to spend their day trying to find new frequencies as well
as confirm old frequencies (especially base radio support nets). Larry Van
Horn's (Grove Enterprises) "Military Frequency Guide", 2nd edition lists 8
VHF high band (148-151 mhz) support nets, 9 FAA/ATC VHF/UHF freqs, 28
air/air VHF Low(NFM)/High/UHF freqs. It's probably a good idea to also
search the 138-143, 162-174, 398-400, 400-420 mhz bands for potential new
frequencies.
Also check out the following Worldwide web information sources:

Monitoring Locations:
The civilian public side of the airport (where the control tower is) has
plenty of parking as well as a small restaurant (Flight Deck --see the menu
at: http://www.barnesairport.com/PDFs/menu.pdf ) in the airport
administrative building (Apremont Way). There's also a small park (Apremont
Park) located on Airport Rd which would be a bit closer to the guard base.
Both roads are right off US Route 202 North. Easy access is via Mass
Turnpke Exit 3, than left at the lights on 202 North.
Not sure yet if I'm going to be able to make it to this potentially
challenging monitoring event, but if any hobbyist is "on scene" give a call
to 'FERRET 1' on FRS Channel 6 (462.6875 mhz) PL code 18 (123.0 hz).
