Are you sure that callsign wasn't SCALP 93? It took me a few times of
hearing "SCOUT" to figure it out.
I'm sure the information I posted about the 970th AACS using SCOUT is
correct. I had a teacher (University of N. Texas) who was a commander for
AFRC E-3 missions flown by the 970th AACS (when he trained each month or
however often it is the Reserves train) and he verified the use of this
callsign and THUMPER. From the many, many times I've heard SCOUT and
THUMPER through the years; I know they are definitely used by the 970th
AACS. That's not to say they callsigns can't (or aren't) used by someone
else too, but I have never heard any other users of the callsign personally.
I'm starting to think that GOLIATH may also be a 970th AACS callsign, but
that's a whole other topic.
I've never heard Barksdale B-52 aircraft use SCOUT, but they've used SCALP
for a long time (as well as many other callsigns).

The aircraft that did the flyover at the Texas Motor Speedway
last weekend was SCOUT 97. It was a B-52H (93d BS) out
of Barksdale.
