Well looks like this ill conceived military performance show has been
cancelled (at least the military portion of it).
For Immediate Release
The Blue Angels forced to Cancel Appearance at the Nantucket Air Show
due to Storm
September 17, 2004 (Nantucket, MA.) Due to Hurricane Ivan and the
devastating losses suffered in Pensacola, FL, the Blue Angels have been
forced to cancel their portion of the Nantucket Air Show. Their concerns
are now about the well-being of their families and their personal
property.
The Nantucket Air Show 2004, its planned events, including all
additional performances will go on as scheduled. The Friday Evening
Barbeque at Sankaty Head Beach Club and the Gala Event at the Nantucket
Memorial Airport will also take place as scheduled.
"The Situation Report from home is that the damage is catastrophic,"
said Commander Russ Bartlett, leader of the team.
The Blue Angels are making arrangements to return to Pensacola Florida,
or its vicinity, on the orders of Vice Admiral Harms, the Commanding
Officer of the Naval Education and Training Command.
"This is a real disappointment to me," said Bartlett, who spent a
portion of his childhood on Nantucket. "It was going to be a highlight
of my career to bring the Blue Angels to the island. I hope one day we
can get here and do this thing right."
The distress this cancellation causes us here pales in comparison to the
distress the Blue Angels and their families are presently experiencing.
