It is 7:50pm EDT (2330z). C-130 SUMIT 18 is dropping PJs into Judy DZ,
just west of Patrick. He has received permission to make his runs into the DZ
from South to North, which is unusual. Because of a problem with the door on the
acft they are doing their drops from the ramp in the rear of the acft.
Comms are with the tower on 133.75 and with the PJ retrieval boat GONDOLA
GATOR on 251.9.
SUMIT 18 has been TDY at Patrick for several days; he is home-based at
Peterson AFB Colorado. He will probably be dropping all week long.
Moments ago, B-1 bomber DARK 35 arrived at Avon Park Bombing Range. Says
he will be dropping 24 GBU-31 JDAMs, and he has 1 hour-23 minutes playtime.
JDAMs (Joint Direct Attack Munitions) are smart bombs which also allow multiple
target engagements on a single pass delivery. JDAMs can be launched from up to
15 miles from the target and each is independently targeted. The pilots comms
are very interesting and a lot different than those normally heard from the
fighter pilots at Avon Park Bombing Range. Tune into him on 264.625.
You'll have to hurry if you don't want to miss the start of tonight's game
in which Boston is sure to sweep the Cardinals in the World Series.
