Greetings everyone,
Sorry these logs are late. Last Saturday (May 15/04) was Transition
Saturday for the Maple Flag exercise at CFB Cold Lake. The exercise runs
over six weeks, in 3 two week blocks. Saturday was the Transition between
two blocks, where the previous participants are going home, and new
participants are flying in. Even here in Regina there was a steady stream
of military aircraft.
You could easily tell the American military aircraft because they were
using UHF frequencies to talk to air traffic control (ATC), specifically
Winnipeg Centre. I can't remember the last time I've heard a Canadian
military aircraft talking to civilian ATC on UHF, except of course when at
military airfields.
Anyway, callsigns heard in the short time I was able to monitor were:
TOMCAT 71
TOMCAT 91
CLAW
PREEMO
REACH
At one point, they lost contact with TOMCAT 71. Winnipeg Centre asked
Regina Tower to call TOMCAT 71 on Guard (121.5/243.0). I did not hear an
answer on Guard, but a short time later TOMCAT 71 came up on 299.6, which
is the Winnipeg Centre remote PAL at Saskatoon. Other frequencies heard
included 283.4 and 266.3, both Winnipeg Centre frequencies out of Regina.
Air to air communications were picked up on 303.0, but I was unable to
determine the callsign or other information on who was using this
frequency.
Also, someone came up on the ATC frequency and said "Victor 9 is 141.6".
So, if anyone knows who has 141.6 programmed in as V-9 on their radios, I
would appreciate knowing.
