Take a look at:

  http://microvoltradio.com/tacan.htm

The VHF channels listed are for reference only, in that
"real" TACAN equipment normally does not use the VHF
frequency information for anything.

When you have a TACAN, a co-located DME (distance
measuring equipment) and azimuth system, the corresponding
VHF frequency allows DME equipped aircraft to tune their
DME system to that channel, for range information. The DME
receiver will not display any bearing information, only the
distance information. If a VOR has a colocated DME system,
the DME channel is automatically paired, frequency-wise, for
that VOR VHF channel.

Trivia, DME readings normally will never go to "zero", for when
an aircraft flies directly over a DME station (or the DME
component of a TACAN, VORTAC or VOR-DME system,
the aircraft is still a distance away from the DME system, due
to altitude.
