The "Chicopee (MA) Register", 12/16/04 edition, ran a story "Reach Students
Briefed About Anti-Terrorism Efforts", reporting that two Westover JARB
(WJARB) top security officials (Anti-Terrorism Officer & the Chief Police &
Investigative Services) briefed middle school students enrolled in the
Resources for Enrichment Advancement in Chicopee program on security &
terrorism.

One segment in the program addressed "emerging technologies" at the base to
include a barricade sytem at the gate & a NEW CAMERA system that monitors
the base.

Another article in the "Chicopee Register" indicated that WJARB made a $196
million impact on the local economy in FY04. The WJARB Pulic Affairs Office
indicated in the article that the base (439 Airlift Wing) employed 3613
people including 2585 Air Force Reservists. Also employed on base are 766
federal employyees and 262 non-appropriated fund employees. In addition to
the 439 AW the base also supports: Marine Corps Support Squadron Six,
Marine Corps Support 474 (Detachment B), US Army Corps of Enginners, US
Armed Forces Reserve Training Center, Maytage Aviation Services, Army-Air
Forces Exchange Services, Reserve Readness & Mobility Squadron, TOW Platoon,
Hq 45h Marine Division, 226th (Army Reserve) Transporatation Company,
(Springfield) Military Entrance Processing Station, & Griffin Services (CE,
Motor Pool, Transit Alert outsourced services).

Westover JARB is the largest Air Force Reserve Command Base in the US and
has played a pivotal role in recent wars in Iraq & Afghanistant as well as
many humanitarian efforts.

"Monitoring Times" magazine, December 2004 edition reported over 14 new
digital (APCO 25) frequencies had been implemented recently at Westover
JARB.

So remember when your visiting for some "On Scene" activity, smile & wave,
cause you probably are on camera!!
