Sorry people, didn't see the news until after I made my last post. It seems
some of the Snowbirds members and pilots were speaking to the media today.
This story has a good summary of the accident and the information to date:
http://www.canada.com/regina/leaderpost/news/story.html?id=a01cb103-490e-4bc5-976a-247693b6ec99
It seems the maneuver being practiced by the two solo pilots was a
"co-loop". The article describes it as a pass between the two solo aircraft
involving "an opposing pass at the bottom, an opposing pass at the top and
then another opposing pass out the bottom."
And just to clarify and correct my last post, Capt. Miles Selby was
Snowbird #8 Opposing Solo.

Here is an update to Tom's report.
All flight training at CFB Moose Jaw has been suspended until further
notice. This will probably be lifted after the memorial and funeral
services. I suspect it may be quite a while though before Snowbird training
resumes.
The two pilots involved were Snowbirds 8 and 9, Lead Solo and Opposing
Solo. No comment has been given on the maneuvers being conducted at the
time of the accident. In fact, there is no indication at all so far on even
a preliminary cause of the accident. The accident happened near Mossbank,
in a military flying area, south of Moose Jaw. Accident investigators have
been on scene since Saturday. The wreckage of the two aircraft is scattered
over a 10 km square area. It will take a while to comb through all of the
fields to locate all of the wreckage.

I was tuning in to CFRB and saw this news:
MOOSE JAW, Sask. (CP) - One pilot from the Canadian Forces' famed Snowbirds
team was killed Friday and a second suffered minor injuries in a mid-air
collision between two jets during a routine training flight in
Saskatchewan.
The dead pilot, Capt. Miles Selby, 31, of Tsawwassen, B.C., was a two-year
veteran of the Snowbirds and had flown CF-18 fighter jets during combat
missions in Kosovo.
Too bad . . .
Tom
