[MilCom] New Scanner on the Way - Antenna Recommendation

I ordered the BC785D scanner yesterday, and would welcome some antenna recommendations. My old 9000XLT has served me well (and still does) over the past several years, but it's time to put it on the second string. I have a Radio Shack mag mount, with only the top 17" antenna element (a simple railroad scanning mod) that works well for milcoms on the 9000XLT. I have the current antenna mounted on a 60mm mortar ammo can that sits on a set of metal shelves so that the tip of the element is an inch short of my ten foot ceiling.
But I figure a new scanner should have a new antenna to get the most out of it. What I'm looking for right now is one that I can use in the house and as a mobile. In the near future I may mount a discone or other type antenna in the attic.
Any help from the knowledgeable people here is greatly appreciated.
TIA - Shawn
