All,
Did a little web research on the JAGCE suffix to some of the HF ALE
identifiers I saw this weekend at Ft Bragg NC:
18FABDEJAGCE- 18th Field Artillery Regiment
FFAJAGCE- unidentified sub-unit of 18th FA Regt
327FAJAGCE- 3-27th FA (MLRS)-Multiple Rocket Launcher Bn, 18th Airborne Corps
229JAGCE
Here's what I found about the JAGCE (JOINT AIR-GROUND CENTER OF EXCELLENCE):
JOINT AIR-GROUND CENTER OF EXCELLENCE (JAGCE): The Joint Air-Ground Center of
Excellence is a Training Transformation (T2) initiative that is offsite from
the NTC (Ft Irwin CA) . The JAGCE, upon successful execution of the Proof of
Principle (POP), tentatively scheduled for April 2004, is projected to be
designated at the Western Area Air National Guard Training Site (WAATS). This
extensive training area covers over 200 square miles of ranges bordered by WAATS
proper to the east and Yuma Proving Grounds to the west with a centralized
position located at Gila Bend. The objective of JAGCE is to construct a training
center unique to Joint Deep Attack (avionic) operations and training. The
monitoring and collection of data will be done using Tactical Engagement Simulation
Systems (TESS). Aircraft will be instrumented along with Ground Targets (both
stationary and moving) that will have shoot back capability. Additionally, the
use of instrumented MLRS-Tess and ASET IV for artillery and air defense
training will be incorporated for future training rotations. A central data
processing and evaluation center is projected to be established at WAATS proper. The
digital processing of data is to done using the Digital Battlefield Simulation
Trainer (DBST). The forcus of the Proof of Principal exercise is to ascertain
the capabilitiers of the area, facilities/infrastructure needs for a JAGCE,
identify training support requirements, identify the impact onto current users
of the airspace and ranges as well as environmental impacts. The objective is
to establish a centerpiece for Continental US Aviation Forces (both AC and RC)
to conduct training and evaluations. Additionally, the TESS and DBST systems
will have the capability to be mobile thus giving the unit the opportunity to
train at home station before and after a Joint Deep Attack exercise at WAATS.
I believe what I saw in HF ALE this weekend was the OPO (Proof of Principle)
exercise at Ft Bragg.
