[MilCom] Radio Scanners at airshows

I'm fairly new to this list, and want to get into better Military
Aviation monitoring in the Chicago area. I have noticed that airshow
security is in general higher, especially with "broad" rules about what
you can and can't do that limit a lot of legitimate activity too. One
example is the Dayton Vectren Airshow. They don't allow "coolers"
defined as "anything that insulates", loose ice, or cans. However drinks
in plastic bottles with those reusable ice packs in a non-insulated bag
are fine. Its strange things like that which make no sense that annoy
me.
I've never had a problem with scanners at the two shows I regularly
attend. Last year at Dayton, I walked the grounds with a scanner w/
headphones clipped to my belt, and was never questioned about it. I also
attend the Chicago Air & Water Show, which shouldn't be a problem since
you can go pretty much anywhere along the stretch of the lakefront to
watch it. No one to really enforce any restrictions against what you can
bring because of the large public viewing area.

Maybe this one air show is the exception. I had a clearly visible
scanner at two Blues Air shows at Helena Montana last summer.

we need to find someone who can represent us as scannerists"
Bob Grove and the gang at Monitoring Times have been doing it for years.
Get thee behind them!
