Not trying to shoot the messenger BUT
For the life of me I could never figure out why the security folks have such
a fetish about someone having a scanner at an air show. Surely as stated
below they are allowing cell phones, cameras, video cameras, etc. AFTER
INSPECTION onto the base.. So what's the big difference? (one official told
me that it was too difficult for the inspection personnel to differentiate
among too much electronic type equipment). I would assume that if the
parking area is relatively close to the runway/show area one could stay
in/near their vehicle to watch & listen to the action!!!!
Personally I'd sure as heck like to know if something had gone astray so
that I could do a hasty retreat to safety. Guess they want to keep everyone
as dumb (and happy) as possible since of course security will be VERY tight.
Hey, while attending one show last year that allowed scanners, a small
private airplane flew right over the base without communicating to anyone!!!
(show control had to issue a warning to the stunt plane in the air about the
intrusion). Wonder if the security folks learned a lesson from this??
