Ken,
What units are you considering? I was
quite pleasantly surprised at the performance of
the Yaesu/Vertex FT-60 dual band (2M/70cm) ham
hand held. It has wide band (i.e. Mil Air)
receive right out of the box, decent sensitivity
(by my reckoning), 1,000 memory channels with
alpha tags and dynamic bank (10 of them) sizing.
The going price is something like $199.00. You
don't need a ham license to won or listen and it
is quite a handy little receiver. I'd suggest you check it out.
