Glen , The discone antenna is a widely used "ground to air" rx and tx
antenna used at most Government/Military installations as is the vertical
antenna. I have made several space station and satellite contacts using a
discone. I have purchased several different manufacturers discones and of
all I have found that Icom's discone is the finest made besides the ones
made for Goverment/Military use. I have compared the discone to a $10,000.00
vertical made by Rockwell Collins and I cannot tell any difference in
reception between the two of them monitoring local traffic. 73 de Randy N5WV

I would like to know if the discone antenna is sufficient for milair
monitoring in the 225 mhz band.
