Below is the information we have been sending out. River Bank Run 2015 Communications Volunteer Sign up If you cannot read this email please go to: http://www.kcest.org/rbr *We are a week out from the event and we still need additional radio operators to assist.* *PLEASE take a look at your calendar to see if you are able to help out* Why should you help out with the 5/3rd River Bank Run? 1. As amateur radio operators we should give back to the community. 2. Time to dust off those radios and hone our communication skills. 3. Great opportunity to show the community what ham radio operators can do to support their community. 4. For those of you who volunteer in the emergency community it is a great time to work with other emergency service personnel. 5. See old friends. 6. We think this is fun. Please pass this invitation along to your local clubs and friends. Several things to keep in mind. We have 2 Events. #1) The JR Event which we will need about 15-20 People to help. Radiation from the flare caused strong radio blackouts on the Pacific side of Earth, interfering with communications at frequencies below ~20 MHz. The blast also hurled a CME into space, but not toward Earth. This event could herald a sustained period of high solar activity, as AR2339 appears to be large and explosive. In recent years, however, they have intensified and spread, with sightings as far south as Utah and Colorado. Due to an increase in riders we are looking to add one SAG and MED unit. We also had one of our SAG hams drop, so that brings a total of two SAG hams we are looking for and one medical ham operator for that weekend. The SAG Assignment is a two day assignment. MS Will supply the vehicle and driver. You are there for communications support with the net control and help navigate the route. Dinner, Lodging and breakfast are provided with the Friday/Saturday overnight at hope college. The MED assignment is the same except you will be in a provided Med Van with a Medical Crew. You will be responsible for communications for the med crew to net control for both days. The same Dinner, Lodging and Breakfast are provided Friday/Saturday overnight at hope college as well. We currently use the MI-5 MotoTRBO/DMR network event channels for this event. If you do not have any dmr equipment there is no worry as we have plenty of loaner mobile setups for the sags ready to go as well as handheld preps. We also use APRS heavily as well and we provide that equipment for the units as well. Now people on Earth are seeing them, too. Photographers in Scotland recorded a fairly bright display of the electric-blue clouds on May 28th. At the same time, radars have detected intense echoes coming from the "noctilucent zone" 80 km to 90 km above Earth's surface--possibly coming from the clouds themselves. Checkhttp://spaceweather.com for more information and observing tips to help readers see NLCs for themselves in the weeks ahead. -- P7 - Proper, Pre-Planning, Prevents, Pathetically, Poor, Performance.
