Subject: Fw: Michigan ARRL PRB-1 eMail List - Update 3
To: Michigan ARRL PRB-1 eMail List
I am pleased to report that all of the positions for the Michigan ARRL PRB-1 Committee have been filled and are posted on the Web Site at www.prb1.michigan.org. The strength and broad experience of the individual members in outstanding. The capability of these members as a Team is nothing short of incredible. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to each of the Committee members for agreeing to join the Committee and to provide the leadership for this very important initiative.
To date, 144 persons have signed-up for the PRB-1 eMail list. While this is gratifying, consider the following statistics:
· There are over 21,000 Amateur Radio Licensees in the State of Michigan
· There are 116 Amateur Radio Clubs in Michigan
· Of these 81 are ARRL Affiliated Clubs
· There are 4,248 Amateur Radio Licensees who are members of ARRL Affiliated Clubs
· Of these 2,823 are ARRL dues paying members
While I will acknowledge that some of the 21,000+ licensees are not active, we definitely need the support and action of all Amateur Operators to make this legislative effort successful. Please encourage your fellow HAMs to sign-up for the eMail list so we can keep them informed of our progress and let them know when the time comes to write to their elected representatives.
I have added what I believe is a significant page to the Committee Web Site entitled "Benefits of PRB-1 Legislation" www.prb1michigan.org/id24.html. I believe that this page is an excellent one-page summary of what this initiative is all about and why legislators, their constituents, local municipalities, and zoning boards should support our proposed legislation. If you have not watched the 6-minute video by Walter Cronkite KB2GSD about Amateur Radio Today, I encourage you to do so. This video highlights the significant contributions made by Amateur Operators during 911 and during the wildfires in the Western US during 2002. You can find a link to the video on the "Links" page at www.prb1michigan.org/id7.html.
It is also worthy to note that ARES members contributed almost $2 million in man hours in support of Public Service and Emergency Communications activities during calendar year 2008. You can find the ARES Report - 2008 on the "Emergency Comm Examples / Statistics" page at www.prb1michigan.org/id23.html. You will also find links to case histories about Emergency Communications in Michigan; e.g. 24-Aug-07 Potterville/South Lansing Tornado and 18-Oct-07 Williamston, MI EF-2 Tornado.
I will continue to keep you updated on activities and topics of interest regarding the PRB-1 Legislation in Michigan.
73,
Bobby Corr N8CY, Chairman
Michigan ARRL PRB-1 Committee
