Ham Radio Hobbyists Come to Midland
 for Annual "Hamfest"

(Midland, MI, May 13, 2008) Ham Radio enthusiasts from throughout the state
of Michigan will eagerly gather at the Midland County Fairground's
Gerstacker Building Saturday, June 14th, as the Midland Amateur Radio Club
holds it's 34th  annual Hamfest and Computer Show. The spacious site is just
north of  US 10 on Eastman Road, directly across from the Midland Mall, and
promises to be packed with radio buffs eager to see the latest equipment,
sell and trade used gear or simply to socialize and meet friends they've
made over the airwaves.
    Dealer set-up is at 6:30 am, with doors opening for the public at 8:00
am.  Table rental is $5.00 each, as is admission. The MARC Hamfest  features
a number of commercial vendors as well as a number of amateurs with
equipment to sell and trade. A vast array of  amateur radio equipment and
accessories, computers and software, parts, coaxial cable and connectors
will greet visitors to the Gerstacker facility.  The Midland Amateur Radio
Club will have its large stock of vintage and hard-to-find vacuum tubes on
hand for sale. Outside, next to the free parking area, a large space will be
available for trunk sales.
    The Club will be offering VE exams on-site for those wishing to earn
their Ham Radio license, or those wishing to upgrade and earn new
privileges.  Registration for the exams starts at Noon; testing begins
promptly at 1:00pm  Applicants will need to bring two pieces of ID and
copies of any licenses and certificates that applicable.  Calculators are
optional.  Test fee is $14.00. If applicants choose to visit the Hamfest
after they complete their tests, the gate fee is not included in the testing
fee. Candidates should note that the test pool for the Extra Class license
will be changing July 1st.
    For those planning on staying overnight, accommodations including the
Fairview Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn are available nearby.   For further
