OPERATION C.A.R.E. COFFEE STOP, Saturday September 3 thru Monday September 5 Labor Day
weekend. At the Rest Area on SB US-131 expressway between Hey M-57 exit #101 and 10 Mile Rd

DAPR, the Downtown Amateur Packet Radio Group of Grand Rapids, meets for breakfast the
Saturday after the first Friday of each month, September 3, at 8AM. New Beginnings
Restaurant, 1455 Michigan St NE. Use the Fuller exit (turn south) off of  I-196 then go east
on Michigan.  "Talk-in" is on 146.760-(94.8Hz).  Anyone interested in digital modes is

Due to the Labor Day holiday weekend, the September meeting of the Grand Rapids Amateur
Radio Association (GRARA) was held a week earlier. See you Friday, October 7.

The W8DC ham shack at the Red Cross building is open for use Wednesdays 7:15PM to about 9 or

Patriot Day Special At GRAHamfest !

Michigan DX Association Patriot Day Activation
To Be Held Saturday September 10th At The GRAHamfest Swap In Lowell,MI

Our Events Manager,Dave Smith - KC8PCL ,is pleased to announce that the Michigan DX
Association will hold it's Patriot Day Special Event this and every Patriot Day!  The
Michigan DX Association requests that all Michigan Hams work "with us" by participating in
our setup at the GRAHamfest Swap In Lowell,MI Saturday,September 10th  What is Patriot
Day?...It's a New Holiday in remembrance of 911

Patriot Day is held to honor all Firemen, Policeman and EMT's who gave their lives on
911.These brave Men and Women "continue" to put their lives on the line for us every day!
All donations will be turned over to these brave heroes. We will be using our club call
W8DXI  From the Swap!!!  We need a few more volunteers to help with Setup and Operation. We
will operate HF and VHF from the GRAHamfest swap formerly known as the Superswap. We will
also accept donations @ the swap and all proceeds go to Michigan Police-Fire and EMT's.

Patriot Day 911 Special Event Announcement!

Our Events Manager,Dave Smith - KC8PCL ,is pleased to announce that the Michigan DX

The votes are in and our Events Manager,Dave Smith,KC8PCL informs us that Frank
Schmidt,N8UVI of Belding,MI is our
2005 winner of the Amateur Radio Pillars Of Society Award!  This award sponsored by the
Michigan DX Association and open to all Great Lakes Radio Amateurs,is in recognition of
service above and beyond the call duty. Frank has always been more than helpful to everyone!
He has done a lot of work in making the Lowell ARC wide coverage repeater what it is today!
When someone has a question Frank always seems to have the answer and he has been most
helpful to the Michigan DX Association Net. What really makes Frank a winner is his ( Great
Attitude ). Congratulations Frank!

COUNTY WIDE DISASTER EXERCISE.
Everyone, we are in need of volunteers to work the September 16th county wide disaster
exercise.    To be part of it the county is requiring everyone to go through the criminal
history check that they require of all volunteers / emergency personnel.

Because of the large need of radio operators we are opening it up to any and all radio
operators around the area who are able to participate.  To participate review the
information below and contact me directly at 6168897101 between 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

Why should you participate?  Because this exercise is going to be huge, if emergency
communications is of any interest to you this will get you hooked.  Plus free lunch is
always a plus.

Date: September 16th

Location: 5/3 Ball Park in Comstock Park (Kent County)

Times / Duration: 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM  - Exercise is to last no longer then 4 hours but
with lunch might take a bit longer

Radio Operators are requested to be at the Kent County Sheriffs department no later then 730
AM for exercise information and equipment deployment.

Equipment needed: If you have a 2 meter / dual band hand held radio or a portable VHF / UHF
station (should be complete)..  If you do not have anything we can issue you equipment.

Operational Frequency's:  Frequencies will issued at time of exercise

Communications Security / Confidentiality, do to the sensitive nature of the operations all
participants must understand all of the information gained from participation in the
exercise is not to be shared with anyone not involved.

West Michigan Traffic Net meets Wednesday and Friday evenings at 9pm on 145.27-(94.8Hz) and
Sundays at 9PM on 147.16+(94.8Hz). The purpose of this net is to handle NTS Traffic coming
into West Michigan. All are welcome to check in. We also are an inlet for outgoing traffic
as well.
The other net is the informal 6mtr AM net that meets every Sunday from 8-9am. This net
originates in Grand Rapids.

THE WEST MICHIGAN TRAFFIC NET is looking for Net controls to take over slots on the 2nd and
4th Friday and 3rd and 4th Wednesday evenings at 9pm- also are looking for someone with a
general Class or higher to go to the nightly sessions of the Michigan traffic net at 7pm to
take NTS traffic and bring it to the West Mich. Net. If interested, send an e mail to
