The Introduction to the Michigan Net, QMN training class originally
scheduled for this past December, will be held on:
Saturday, February 7, 2004.
The class will begin at 9-AM and will be conducted at the West-Central
Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross at Grand Rapids. The Chapter
building is located on the East side of Fuller Avenue, just North of I-196.
The Introduction to the Michigan Net, QMN class will consist of:
* An overview of the QMN net and it's various programs, including the
radiotelegraph and packet radio networks.
* A detailed discussion of the Michigan Net - National Weather Service Rain
Gauge Network. The various message formats utilized for both routine and
emergency reports will be covered in detail. SOPs and registration forms
will be distributed to interested parties.
* A detailed explanation of the QMN CW net procedures.
The class will conclude with simulated CW net sessions utilizing a US Army
Signal Corp portable code classroom, in which students may practice
interacting in net situations. This will provide an opportunity for
everyone to learn how the nets operate and to build confidence before
checking-in "on-air."
